The Erasmus+ project Small Talk: Investing in Intercultural Dialogue had the aim of bringing together different JCI Countries in order to increases awareness on intercultural dialogues.

project overview

Diversity in beliefs and convictions can lead to misconceptions, and fear and the lack of ability to communicate in the mother language of the country may lead to exclusion and hamper integration. In light of this, it is thus very important to have effective and constructive dialogue between people and cultures. Intercultural dialogue helps people to understand other cultures better and thus be more open to inclusion and be also more tolerant. JCI Malta wanted to be the Organisation that makes the first step towards this through this project.

This Training Course organised in 2015 offered the the partners from JCI Jordan, JCI Morocco, JCI Estonia, JCI UK and JCI Malta the opportunity to interact and discuss issues which are common to all of us; a world which is made up of different cultural minorities and how we can improve dialogue between the different cultures co-existing in one one country. The focus was on 3 main issues:

  1. Inter-cultural dialogue enhanced through intercultural communication,
  2. Inclusion and young people within a European and international context, and
  3. Project Management and active participation of young people.

JCI Malta managed to bring together 5 countries with totally different cultures and unite them through a cause that is felt internationally. The Organisation managed to organise a meeting for the participants of the project with Her Excellency Marie Louise Coleiro Preca the President of Malta, and had the opportunity to discuss the issue of intercultural dialogue with her. The participating partners each took back knowledge on the topic to their respective organisations and can now create similar projects in their communities.
